Job Description
Lead development and implementation of advocacy and communications strategies for nutrition programs in Kenya, coordinating policy engagement, media outreach, digital content, and stakeholder partnerships for CARE International.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, operationalise and refine the CASCADE Advocacy and Communications Strategy, aligning nutrition priorities with advocacy agendas.
- Participate in national and county‑level policy platforms, develop policy briefs and advocacy submissions for decision‑makers.
- Lead creation, quality assurance and dissemination of high‑impact advocacy and communication products, managing external consultants.
- Support design and execution of advocacy events, policy dialogues and public forums, and package outcomes for wider dissemination.
- Facilitate community‑driven advocacy processes and translate grassroots evidence into compelling messages.
- Engage media to promote project outputs, conduct strategic outreach and build capacity for ethical storytelling.
- Oversee digital advocacy content creation, maintain communication channels, and document success stories.
- Collaborate with MEAL team to monitor, evaluate and report on advocacy outcomes and learning.
- Contribute to workplan development, donor reporting and knowledge product creation for CARE platforms.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government, civil society, development partners and the private sector.
Requirements
- Degree in Communication, Journalism or a related field (BA/BSc/HND).
- Minimum five years of professional media and communications experience, including engagement with decision‑makers.
- Proven ability to develop and implement communication strategies for advocacy goals.
- Demonstrated competence in influencing political leadership, policy and practice.
- Strong news‑writing and multimedia production skills.
- Experience working in multilateral environments and coalitions, including women’s and youth movements.
- Capability to design and implement major information campaigns.
- Knowledge of gender and human‑rights issues.
- Excellent communication, presentation, networking and advocacy skills.
- Proficiency with social‑media platforms and outreach.
- Familiarity with the local media landscape.
- Understanding of development and humanitarian contexts.
