Job Description
Lead strategic communications, manage multi‑channel campaigns, oversee media relations, and direct a diverse communications team to enhance TJNA’s visibility across Africa, aligning messaging with organizational values.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive and manage TJNA’s strategic communications and implement the communication strategy.
- Lead multi‑channel action plans and identify thought‑leadership opportunities.
- Develop advocacy messages, fact sheets, briefs, blogs, policy briefs, and campaign materials.
- Coordinate production of publications and ensure quality of social media, media releases, presentations, and multimedia content.
- Direct and manage campaign execution, including timelines, content, and logistics.
- Assess communication channel effectiveness, set metrics, and perform analytics.
- Establish the communications department’s strategic direction, recruit and supervise a diverse team.
- Manage the department’s operational budget and reporting.
- Collaborate with senior management and provide strategic input to the Executive Director.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key stakeholders.
- Act as media liaison and spokesperson for TJNA.
- Work cross‑functionally with programmes, partnerships, knowledge management, capacity development, and policy research to identify messaging priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc/HND) required.
- Minimum 10 years professional communications experience.
- At least 5 years leadership experience in communications, preferably non‑profit/advocacy.
- Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic communications and campaigns.
- Experience managing remote, diverse teams.
- Proficiency with communications technologies and translating technical content.
- Strong media relations and public‑relations experience.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate‑level training or MBA/MSc/MA preferred.
- Master’s degree in communications or related field advantageous.
- Bilingual in English and French is an advantage.
- Familiarity with African development context and civil‑society environment.
- Cross‑cultural sensitivity and stakeholder relationship building.
