Job Description
Provide strategic communication support to Kenya's Ministry of Health, developing campaigns, monitoring media, managing crises, and coordinating partners to enhance public health messaging and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development and implementation of communication strategies for public announcements, policy advocacy, risk communication and community engagement targeting policy makers, health workers, families and communities.
- Monitor traditional and social media to identify and address misinformation and disinformation; conduct social listening and craft resonant key messages.
- Map critical issues, engage MoH divisions and propose internal communication mechanisms to strengthen coordination and enable proactive responses.
- Provide advice on crisis communication when necessary and share lessons learned from other countries.
- Engage partners to drive advocacy, raise awareness and promote community engagement; guide the RCCE technical working group to ensure coordinated partner support, focusing on high‑risk populations and gender parity.
- Carry out additional tasks as instructed by the Office of the Director General.
Requirements
- University degree in communication, journalism, media, marketing or a related field.
- Minimum six years of progressively responsible experience in public relations, corporate communications, advocacy/campaigning/marketing or media work.
- Strong background in developing and delivering national‑level communication campaigns within the last six years.
- Proven track record working with media and experience in media relations.
- Experience with digital platforms and social media, including content creation and online platform management.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to present technical concepts clearly and articulately.
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili, both oral and written.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership or affiliation with the Media Council of Kenya, Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK) or Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in crisis communication and handling adverse events following immunisation.
- Experience engaging partners and coordinating technical working groups.
