Job Description

Kingdom Bank Limited seeks a Database Administrator in Nairobi to ensure high‑availability, performance, backup, security, and compliance of MSSQL and PostgreSQL databases, supporting audit, BCP, and development teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor performance and tune parameters for fast query responses.
  • Maintain system logs, events, and baseline performance statistics.
  • Manage high‑availability components, storage, and infrastructure for mission‑critical databases.
  • Develop, test, and maintain backup and recovery plans.
  • Lead IT audits, provide information, and enforce closure of audit and compliance issues.
  • Identify and mitigate key IT risks for all database systems.
  • Lead Business Continuity Planning and disaster recovery testing and updates.
  • Collaborate with application support, development, and infrastructure teams to monitor and improve systems.
  • Perform schema design, capacity planning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and change control.
  • Refine physical design to meet storage and accessibility requirements.
  • Install, configure, and patch MSSQL and PostgreSQL databases, ensuring license compliance.
  • Create and maintain database documentation, data standards, procedures, and data dictionary.
  • Communicate regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure integrity and security.
  • Work with limited supervision to maintain data reliability and develop maintenance standards.
  • Set up and test new database and data handling systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, IT or related discipline.
  • 2–3 years experience with database and data warehousing technologies in production environments.
  • Proficiency with Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, strong SQL and PL/SQL skills.
  • Experience with data warehouse objects, data integration, BI, OLAP, and data mining.
  • Familiarity with ICT standards such as ITIL and COBIT.
  • Proficiency with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Knowledge of data profiling, modeling, validation, sizing, storage, performance, and security.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Understanding of Oracle technology stack and ICT system architectures.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
