Job Description
Responsible for managing hospital laundry operations, including sorting, washing, ironing, record‑keeping, equipment maintenance, and ensuring clean, stain‑free linen availability while supporting other departments throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle all incoming items to the laundry, including foul linen; record pieces and check status (stains, tears, colour, material, etc.).
- Ensure clean linen is always available and prevent shortages.
- Verify that linen issued to departments and patients is stain‑free; remove stains before cleaning.
- Be responsible for all items/equipment in the laundry and explain any shortages or spoilage.
- Sort various clothes/linen for different treatments and washing.
- Wash, dry, and iron all linen and patients' clothing according to label instructions.
- Report any shortages and recommend when replacement stocks are required.
- Keep records of any damage to items while in the laundry.
- Report on the condition of patients' clothing to enable necessary replacements.
- Maintain a clean and hygienic laundry room.
- Ensure all machines and equipment are in good working order; report defects and problems.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Housekeeper.
Requirements
- Certificate/Diploma in Dry and Laundry Techniques
- Minimum 2 years experience as a laundry attendant, preferably in a hospital setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to move intermittently during working hours
- Sufficient strength to lift linen and operate machinery
- Ability to handle pressure and stand for long hours
- Flexibility to work beyond normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays
- Maintain liaison with other departments
- Ready to serve with a smile
