Job Description
Lead the National Cereals and Produce Board as Managing Director/CEO, providing strategic direction, overseeing operations, stakeholder relations, and food security initiatives while ensuring corporate governance and financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Chief Executive Officer and Accounting Officer of the organization.
- Provide overall oversight, direction and control of Board operations to ensure professional, efficient and effective management.
- Direct administrative functions and spearhead organizational development.
- Ensure proper human‑resource management to attract and retain quality staff.
- Foster an ethical corporate culture and good corporate citizenship.
- Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Oversee efficient systems supporting performance and service delivery.
- Administer the National Food Reserve (NFR).
- Administer the Country’s Food Balanced Sheet Committee (FBSC) secretariat.
- Oversee the agricultural hub‑model across 110 stations, ensuring affordable storage, inputs and support services for farmers and reducing post‑harvest losses.
- Promote the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) to enhance structured grain trading regionally.
- Advise the Government on food production and incentive systems.
- Coordinate preparation of business proposals and mobilise required resources.
- Work with senior management to prepare budgets and annual plans for Board approval.
- Ensure effective communication between management and the Board and across management levels.
- Execute and communicate Board strategies, decisions and policies.
- Act as the official spokesperson of the organization.
Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of service, with at least 5 years at senior management level.
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Economics, Business, Marketing, Agricultural Economics, Law, Food Science, Engineering or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in any of the above fields or Business Administration, or equivalent qualification.
- Leadership course of at least four weeks or equivalent qualification.
- Membership of a relevant professional body where applicable.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Thorough understanding of the Constitution, Government policies and development agenda and ability to align them with the institution’s mandate.
- Must meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
Preferred Qualifications
- Kenyan citizen.
- Transformative leader capable of enhancing the Board’s visibility.
- Understanding of corporate governance for state corporations.
- Demonstrates accountability, integrity and professionalism.
