Job Description

Monitor and document protection risks for LGBTQI+ refugees in Nairobi, collect data, refer cases, engage community, and support coordination while ensuring confidentiality and safety through culturally sensitive approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, monitor, verify, and document human‑rights violations and protection risks for LGBTQI+ refugees.
  • Conduct confidential community monitoring and safe check‑ins.
  • Collect protection data using KOBO, analyze trends, and prepare weekly/monthly reports.
  • Refer individuals to protection, legal, GBV, health, mental health, and livelihood services.
  • Support emergency assistance, shelter placement, and safety planning.
  • Facilitate community awareness sessions on refugee rights and protection mechanisms.
  • Mobilize community members for forums, sensitisation campaigns, and safe dialogue spaces.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and partners, map services, and participate in meetings.
  • Provide translation and cultural mediation during activities.
  • Support capacity building and training of beneficiary groups.

Requirements

  • O‑Level (KCSE) education certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum three months of work experience, preferably with an NGO.
  • Ability to conduct confidential monitoring and documentation of protection risks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant training in protection, humanitarian response, or related fields.
  • Experience in refugee protection and assistance, especially with LGBTQI+ populations.
  • Proficiency with data collection tools such as KOBO.
  • Strong communication and translation skills.
  • Ability to work sensitively with vulnerable populations.
